Our visit to Hoa's sister in-law's house

This was absolutely a high point in our trip. It was at least as valuable as any of our visits to high schools, colleges/universities, various departments of education.

The warm welcome, complete with refreshments and fresh fruits, was appreciated by everyone in the group. It was neat to see an upper class (probably) home. The living room accommodated all 18 of us! Even better was the conversation we had with the family. The father is a university professor, the mother is a middle school teacher, and the younger son is a sophomore at the local university. These people were very appropriate for this study tour given our interests in internationalization, faculty development, and active learning.

Personally, I was impressed by the family's hospitality. They were definitely interested in talking to us. And Hoa was very excited and pleased to show us both a family home and part of her family. It was truly an honor to be there and it was interesting to see that in many ways their home looked like mine. Of course, I don't have a garage door (for motor bikes) that opens directly into the house!
